San Jose peppered Craig Anderson in the Ottawa net with 50 shots with Logan Couture, Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Melker Karlsson, Joe Pavelski and Tomas Hertl all beating veteran goalie to give the Sharks their second consecutive win.
There’s no rest for San Jose however as they are immediately into action on Sunday as they host the Minnesota Wild in the finale of their three-game home stand.
The Sharks gained no ground on the Los Angeles Kings and Vegas Golden Knights ahead of them as their Pacific Division rivals were also picking up wins on Saturday.
LA picked up their eighth straight to maintain their four point advantage over the Knights with a 3-2 overtime defeat of the Carolina Hurricanes.
It was the second overtime triumph in a row for the Kings who had defeated the Senators on Thursday. Tanner Pearson recorded the winner with 20 seconds to go in the extra frame after the Hurricanes had rallied to record the regulation point.
Meanwhile the Golden Knights were winning their three-game season series against the Stars with a 5-3 win at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
David Perron, Reilly Smith and Brayden McNabb all lit the lamp in the pivotal second period for Vegas who secured their four straight having previously beaten the Arizona Coyotes, Anaheim Ducks and Nashville Predators.
