Cook aims to challenge Citizens

The Latics go into the game against the runaway Premier League leaders having suffered a mini-slump in their own bid to secure a return to the Championship, having lost to Southend and Blackpool in their last two games.

We’re genuinely not going to sit back, it’s not our thing.

However, Cook refuses to be cowed by the loss of form and insists that the hosts will do all they can to try and make the Citizens uncomfortable at the DW Stadium.

He told reporters: “Will we upset them on the night? Percentage-wise, very small. But will we give it a go? Of course we will, we’re not going to sit off them.

“We’re genuinely not going to sit back, it’s not our thing. Why would we want to sit back and wait for them to open us up? We’ve got to try and affect the game.”

“Whatever you try and do to them, Man City have a way of finding a way to do whatever they want to teams.

“For us, it’s how many minutes in the game can we make it uncomfortable for them and then when we have those moments, can we score?”

Cook will have to make do without the services of four players, with Devante Cole, James Vaughan and Donervon Daniels all cup-tied, while captain Sam Morsy misses out as he begins a two-match suspension.
